This Department takes a materials-oriented approach to industrial products consisting of various materials and parts. Materials processing covers materials design technology, combining different materials to make the most of their individual properties; processing technology, transforming materials into the shapes needed for machine components with high precision; and micro-scale processing technologies, which are the object of growing attention. It is a discipline leading to development of new materials.
Objects of development include new high-strength, high-durability welding and joining technology to improve the lifespan and reliability of industrial products under extreme conditions, methods for design and evaluation of fiber-reinforced materials, and nondestructive measurement techniques that see inside materials to aid.
