The Division of International Education was established in 1985 to support its academic mission, offering services and programs to about 400 international students. In 1998, the Division of International Exchange was also established to promote international cooperation with foreign universities to enrich education and research work with one another. In 2004, two divisions were united and the Division of International Education & Exchange was founded as a part of the School of Engineering. Services included Japanese language education, orientation, personal and academic advice and arrangement of social meetings.
The International Student Center was established in 1993 and its current activities are three-fold: education of Japanese language and culture to foreign students, orientation to foreign students and also to Japanese students who wish to undertake study abroad, and general activities to foster international exchange.
