Professor MUTO Izumi of the Department of Materials Science, was awarded Nishiyama commemorative prize at the 167st ISIJ Spring Meeting.

Professor MUTO Izumi of the Department of Materials Science, Graduate School of Engineering at Tohoku University was awarded Nishiyama commemorative prize at the 167st ISIJ Spring Meeting, 2014 ( March 21 – 23, 2014). The Nishiyama commemorative prize is awarded to researchers who presented an academically or industrially outstanding and valuable contributions related to Iron and Steel.
Professor MUTO Izumi has advanced research on mechanism of localized corrosion that are pitting, crevice corrosion and etc, of steel materials. Especially, micro electro-chemical system with In-Situ real time observation function, and fluorescent imaging plate for measuring distribution of pH and chloride ion concentration were developed originally. His achievement regarding Iron and Steel Material was highly esteemed and resulted in receiving the award.
