Extension of Period of Stay or Change of Status
In regard to Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act, international students are granted a permit to stay in Japan. Students who need to stay in Japan for a longer period or to change your status such as from ‘Student‘ to ‘Temporary Visitor’ or other (or vice versa), must apply.
The procedure for obtaining an extension of period of stay must be completed at the Sendai Regional Immigration Bureau（TEL. 022-256-6073, open until 4 pm on weekdays) or the Immigration Office in the area where you have your certificate of residence before the authorized period of stay or current status expires.

- When you receive your renewed residence card, please be sure to show it to the International Affairs Section, Academic Affairs Division. Alternatively, you can upload the file from the following site.
Upload file to this form - If you have poor grades, the Immigration Bureau may not be able to approve your renewal of your stay. Without renewal, you cannot continue your studies in Japan. Just keep studying and working hard
