2020/06/22

During this unprecedented time, I wanted to take a moment to let you know that we are now trying to make every possible effort to prevent your infection and avoid further spread of COVID-19. About one-third of students and 10% of faculty members of Tohoku University are the member of the School of Engineering. As the biggest School in University, we believe we should never run out of responsibility towards University and our community. We are asking all the students of the School of Engineering to take classes online and refrain from extracurricular activities, and these countermeasures are inconveniencing you. However, we will continue our efforts to prevent the pandemic caused by the spread of COVID-19. We ask for your continued understanding and cooperation to our current and further actions in response to COVID-19.
The current situation is exceptional and as such it poses many big challenges. However, we realize clearly that we should keep our quality of teaching high even in this situation. Also, we are facing a challenge to maintain the level of research that we have cultivated over 100 years and keep our contribution to our society. Given these challenges, we are required to take every single possible measure in resolving the issues
We will remain here to hear from you. To guarantee your study environment to attend online courses, we will try to find the most suitable solutions for any cases. If you have financial concerns, we want to help you address them as much as possible by offering an opportunity to work as an online teaching assistant.
I have no doubt that we will achieve unity to defeat this crisis together. Let's do our best together.

Dean, the School of Engineering
Prof. Nagasaka Tetsuya
