This Department takes an engineering approach to the sophisticated functions of living organisms with the aim of advancing technologies that will benefit human beings. The curriculum is designed to enable natural acquisition of knowledge and experience on the way to development of human resources who, from a broad perspective, can contribute actively to human health and safety.
Classes in the Department teach students about genes, proteins, sugar chains, biomembranes, organic molecules and other topics they will need to know in order to be active in the future biotechnology field. They also learn high-level practical biotechnologies by studying the workings of microorganisms, enzimes, antibodies and the like, and learning the mechanisms of biological information and energy transfer and of immune responses.
